Gov’t Pays Cllr. Lewis Homage

first_imgThe Government of Liberia has paid homage to fallen former Chief Justice of Liberia, His Honor Johnnie N. Lewis, who ably served his country in several capacities.President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf described the late Chief Justice, whom she appointed at the beginning of her first term in 2006, as a long tenured public servant in both Liberia and the international community.Speaking yesterday when she officially announced the death of the retired Chief Justice to the Liberian public in a nationwide address on state radio, the President noted that “Cllr. Lewis served his country and the world with extra-ordinary talent, intellect, knowledge and brilliance.”The late Counselor served as Chief Justice for over six years before stepping down as a result of poor health. While he served, he brought many reforms in the Judiciary system.He died at the John F. Kennedy Medical Hospital on Wednesday at 5 p.m.President Sirleaf, during the nationwide address, called on Liberians to give the fallen former Chief Justice the respect that he duly deserves. She made specific reference to the Supreme Court of Liberia and the Liberia National Bar Association where the late veteran lawyer ably served his country. “Our deepest condolence goes to his biological family, his friends and his official family—the honorable Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia and the Liberia National Bar Association. May we all grant him the respect that he duly deserves,” said the President.She has declared that the national flag be flown at half-mast throughout the Republic and all Liberia’s missions abroad for 15 days from January 22 to February 5.This, she noted, is as a mark of last respect and tribute to the late former Chief Justice.Meanwhile funeral arrangements for the late Former Chief Justice will be announced later.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
