West Ham star insists ‘great guy’ Lucas Perez would never refuse to play

first_img 2 Perez allegedly refused to warm up Perez blasted the claims on social media on Monday, and attempted to set the record straight that it was Pellegrini’s choice to bring on Michail Antonio instead.Speaking after the match, the boss explained that while Perez had finished his warm-up and had sat back down on the bench, Michail Antonio was just completing his so was the readier of the two players to go on immediately.Yet, it was suggested Perez – who was seen apparently arguing with a West Ham coach – had refused to play. And, speaking to talkSPORT host Jim White on Monday, Snodgrass insisted that was unlikely, describing his Spanish team-mate as ‘a great lad to have about the place’.“I don’t know what happened,” said Scotland international Snodgrass.“Lucas was sitting behind me on the bench so I don’t know about what is being said. “I was warming up for maybe 15 or 20 minutes before that as well, so I don’t know what happened.“But I’ll tell you something, he’s a terrific lad.“He’s a great lad to have about the place, he comes in every day with a smile on his face and works really hard.“So listen, I don’t know what’s happened, but it would be very unlike him if that’s the case because he’s a good guy and he’s very good for the squad.”Listen back to Robert Snodgrass on talkSPORT IN FULL above! West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass has hailed under-fire Lucas Perez as ‘a great guy’ and has backed the striker’s claims about the ‘false information’ that he apparently refused to go on as a substitute against Everton. The Hammers claimed their first Premier League win under new boss Manuel Pellegrini at Goodison Park on Sunday, but the victory was tarnished by reports following the game that summer signing Perez had refused to come off the bench.Television replays appeared to show the former Arsenal forward, who had just finished his warm-up, not wanting to come on to replace Marko Arnautovic after the Austrian suffered a knee injury in the second half.center_img 2 Snodgrass is back in the frame at West Ham having spent last season on loan at Aston Villa GETTY IMAGES – GETTY last_img read more
