All confirmed away kits in the Premier League for next season ranked

first_img 10. Leicester City’s official away kit 2017/18 – The gold badge looks classy, but the detailing on the shoulders is patchy and really bring the overall quality down. 8. Swansea City’s official away kit 2017/18 – A throwback to their away kit from 2012/13, the green and red really shouldn’t work… but they really do. The main sponsor is quite striking in the white, and matches well with the badge and kit sponsor. 13 12. Manchester United’s official away kit 2017/18 – They’ve gone retro, but this kit just doesn’t work. The design is garish, mixing shades of grey rarely works, and the Chevrolet logo reigns supreme. Eurgh! 13 13 11. West Ham United’s official away kit 2017/18 – Despite a fantastic home shirt, West Ham’s away kit is below par. It’s just a bit dull honestly, and it’s never good when the most eye catching part of a kit is the sponsor. 13. Everton’s official away kit 2017/18 – click the arrow above, right, to take a look at where talkSPORT.com has ranked each officially released away strip for next season – A pyjama top? A training top? Whatever it is, this shirt is shocking. Even Kevin Mirallas looks like he’s forcing a smile wearing it. 13 13 13 13 13 13 6. Southampton’s official away kit 2017/18 – A smooth colour combination utilised well in stripes. The sponsor also looks good (for the first time since Virgin started sponsoring Saints) with the white minimalist design going on. 4. Crystal Palace’s official away kit 2017/18 – Just look at that stripe. It is so striking on the black chest. Even the sponsor doesn’t look too bad with the white trim. 5. Liverpool’s official away kit 2017/18 – Liverpool have gone retro like they did with their home kit, but this one is not as nice. The green and white checks are a classic, but they should have gone with a block of colour. The pin stripes make it look like the ink ran out during printing. 13 So they’re a little expensive, but that doesn’t stop many of us getting excited by new kit launches.Plenty have been released over the past couple of months in the Premier League and we’ve decided to rate, specifically, the away strips that have surfaced.Scroll through the gallery above to take a look at our ranking of each officially released away kit from England’s top flight for the 2017/18 season. 3. Tottenham Hotspur’s official away kit 2017/18 – Probably the most suave of all 2017/18 away kits, Spurs have outdone themselves. Like the home shirt the shield is fantastic, and deep shade of blue is wonderful. 7. Chelsea’s official away kit 2017/18 – Simple white is a nice, suave look… if a bit boring. The blue trim does add something, but it doesn’t look like Nike made that much effort. 9. Watford’s official away kit 2017/18 – The person adding the sash needs to learn how to find the centre of a design before working on any more kits. Still a nice shirt though. The shade of red is superb and the white trim looks lovely. 13 13 13 2. Stoke City’s official away kit 2017/18 – A lovely shade of blue with an excellent white collar. The red to white gradient on the front is a real nice touch. 1. West Bromwich Albion’s official away kit 2017/18 – Just gorgeous. The red and white combination is striking, and the use of black for the Adidas stripes and collar frame the front superbly.last_img read more

South African academics: uncertainty affecting nation brand

first_imgIndepth analysis by some of the country’s top academics highlighted domestic issues influencing the reputation and competitiveness of the nation’s brand, at a Brand South Africa competitiveness forum held at the University of Pretoria, Tshwane, on 5 October 2016.“Gupta-gate, Nkandla scandal, Dalai Lama (visa debacle), (uncertainty surrounding Finance Minister) Pravin Gordhan and other incidents such as these, have a negative influence in our country,” said Dr Garth le Pere, visiting professor in the university political science department, during one of the forum’s panel discussions.Le Pere added that South Africa’s reputational cache in foreign policy and its relationships with the rest of the world and Africa had been affected because of this uncertainty. He urged politicians, diplomats and, indeed, all South Africans to reclaim and help build on the country’s strong historical moral identity before the overall brand image suffered more permanent damage. On the same panel, Professor George Angelopulo, from Unisa’s communication science department, said that while the economic and reputational growth of South African cities contributed greatly to building the nation’s brand, mismanagement of urban areas and economic inequality still exerted a negative influence on how perceptions of the country were formed.“Cities hold many benefits, but in the rapid transformation that characterises South Africa’s cities there are also significant challenges,” Angelopulo said. “Urbanisation is swift and largely uncontrolled, with growing slums and informal settlements, unequal access to urban services, significant climate impact and rising inequality.”Cities fulfilled a vital role in the destiny of the country because, as competitive positions within the nation, the economies of cities were connections to the rest of Africa and the world, he said, emphasising that cities must be “relevant to a wide spectrum of stakeholders of the South African brand – national and international business, institutions, government and its citizens”.Earlier in the day, during his introduction to the forum, general manager of research at Brand South Africa Dr Petrus de Kock drew attention to the recent university protests creating uncertainty about the reputation of South Africa’s tertiary education sector.“We must maintain the integrity of institutions and the protests are raising a question of instability of institutions and that’s something we really have to safeguard and protect because it’s an important nation asset.”Individuals, he said, underlying the forum’s overall theme of responsible citizenship, were the key to building the country’s reputation. Citizens, be they private or working in public or commercial service, had a responsibility to uphold the values that were the core of South African democracy and decency, urging that all “South Africans take responsibility of what you do”.SouthAfrica.info reporterWould you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? Aussie siblings look to make MTB history in South Africa

first_img8 April 2014Having previously excelled at Cascades MTB Park, Australian downhill racing siblings, Mick and Tracey Hannah, are hoping to make history by winning the men’s and women’s titles at the opening round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, which gets under way in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on Friday.South Africa’s Greg Minnaar edged out Mick for the title at the 2013 UCI MTB and Trials World Championships in Pietermaritzburg last year, and Hannah has been hard at work in the off-season in an attempt to get himself back to the summit of his discipline. With Minnaar competing, but working his way back from knee surgery, a golden opportunity awaits the quietly spoken Aussie.‘We’re giving ourselves a good chance’“Going into the season, I have changed my training a little this year,” the Hutchinson UR Team rider said in a statement on Monday. “So far I’m really happy with the results, but I never know until the first race. Also, we have done a lot of work with the bike, so I think we’re giving ourselves a good chance to do well this year.”Hannah has twice placed second in Pietermaritzburg, both times behind Minnaar, in the 2009 World Cup leg and then again at the World Championships seven months ago. With good knowledge of the course and a fondness for the unique layout, his chances of going one better in 2014 seem bright.‘It’s fast and fun’“I really enjoy riding the Cascades course,” he enthused. “It’s fast and fun. It’s definitely physically demanding as well. I think it’s an exciting venue.“I have done well here consistently. I really enjoy the high speed courses and here you need a lot of power, which is a strength of mine,” he added.“Getting a good start to the season is very important for me. As I said before, I would love to win. Firstly, because of my history in Pietermaritzburg, but also because the second round is at home in Cairns, and I would love to start there with the leader’s jersey.”Memorable victoryTracey Hannah rode to a memorable victory in Pietermaritzburg in 2012, but was unable to repeat her feat in 2013, when British rider Rachel Atherton produced a near flawless display to claim the world champion’s rainbow-striped jersey.Hannah has been plagued by injury in recent times, but she heads into the Pietermaritzburg World Cup with a clean bill of health.“I’ve had probably the best off season I’ve ever had,” she said. “In the past I’ve had injuries, but this season has been clean and I’m feeling fit and fast with no injuries.”‘It’s a really great track’She said was looking forward to the unique challenges posed by the Cascades downhill course. “I think it’s a really great track. I love the speed and the jumps and it’s super fun to ride and hard to race. It’s usually slippery and dusty, so the bike gets loose, but I just love the speed of the track and the way it’s built to flow.“The most original thing about Cascades must be the people, the atmosphere. It’s very different to say Europe or anywhere,” she smiled.“I’d love to win it again, but my goal this season is to be consistent without injury.“I’d say getting a good start to the season is very important, but all my eggs aren’t in the Pietermaritzburg basket. I just hope to do my best race and I’ll be happy with that.”SAinfo reporterlast_img read more
