World Cup fallout sees Kambi eyeing global growth

Aided by the beginning of the Russia World Cup, hailed as “a huge success for Kambi and our operators, with turnover, revenues and active players reaching all time highs” by CEO Kristian Nylén, the firm is now focused on a concerted level of growth with a number of clients.Addressing the impact on revenue deals with current clients in Colombia (Corredor Empresarial S.A), Romania (Stanleybet) and South Africa (Sun International), could have in the near future Nylén explained: “I think especially with Corredor there has been some official data that Colombia’s market is growing quite fast, and we strongly believe that Corredor has very very good potential to be a market leader eventually. I don’t think they are there at the moment but I think they are in a good way to get there.“When it comes to Stanleybet, I don’t expect a huge amount of revenues coming from Stanleybet [until further development takes hold in roughly a years time].“With Sun International, they had an existing sportsbook before us so that should be an immediate impact on revenues.”Before adding on the retail aspirations of Sun: “I don’t think at the moment they are doing very much on the retail, [but] i know they are interested in operating a large chunk in retail as well.“Also they are looking at owning casinos in a few countries in South America, so I also expect them to start sports betting there at some point.”A particular focus for many organisations at the moment, and moving forward, is the United States, and its many possibilities opened up since the repeal of PASPA over two months ago.Kambi has been busy in the market, securing deals with DraftKings and Rush Street Gaming, who have also launched a Colombia facing sportsbook with Kambi, as Nylen welcomed the fierce competition “I think it’s positive and not negative”.Going into further depth regarding its US operations, Nylén explained: “In Pennsylvania, sports betting can only be offered through an exclusive agreement with a land-based casino, after the state regulator limited the number of sports betting licenses a casino can have to just one – making market entry all the more difficult.“However, Kambi will gain entry to the market through its recent deal with Rush Street Gaming, which owns two of the states twelve casinos.  “Current legislation in New York, which is limited to retail only, will cap the number of operators that can offer sports betting to just four commercial land-based casinos.“Of those four casinos, one is owned by Rush Street Gaming, while another (Del Lago) has a deal in place with DraftKings, potentially handing Kambi 50% of the regulated market. “With many other sports betting operators and supplier likely to be blocked out.“In both instances, land-based operators are an essential route into the market, for all sports betting operators and suppliers, and we expect this reliance to continue as more states prepare for regulation.”last_img read more

Do You Belong in the Zoo?

first_imgPeople are gawking at people in the London Zoo, each probably wondering what side of the cage they belong on.  In one of the primate exhibits, eight scantily clad white people are on display, reports AP (see MSNBC and Yahoo).  Wearing fig leaves pinned onto their swimsuits, they play, they scratch, they groom each other, they wave to the onlookers.  The idea is to show that humans are nothing special, but just like other animals.  Unlike the apes and chimpanzees in the other primate cages, however, the humans get to go home at night.    The stunt is drawing visitors who had never visited the zoo.  Some viewers were disappointed to find the humans wearing clothes; didn’t fig leaves come from the Genesis tradition? they wondered.  Children, confused by the message of the display, have been overheard asking, “Why are there people in there?” An apocryphal story has one of the chimpanzees asking, “Am I my keeper’s brother?”At least they’re using white people this time (see articles by Carl Wieland and Jerry Bergman).  Mark Looy at Answers in Genesis couldn’t keep silence any longer, especially when he had a Londoner on staff, Dr. Monty White, to interpret the zoo’s actions in light of Darwinian theory.    The Darwin Party leaders need to give the rest of us a demonstration.  They should get into the cage and show us how to act like a primate – where to scratch, how to shriek and club each other, how to draw figures of prey on the wall, and how to make rock music.  After we lock the door and take the key, we’ll promise to take good care of them (feed them all the bananas they want, etc.) as we laugh all the way to the school board meeting.(Visited 16 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

Alanis Morissettes manager jailed for 6 years for stealing more than 7

first_imgAdvertisement Schwartz was sentenced Wednesday to six years in federal prison for embezzling more than $7 million (U.S.) from Morissette and others after the singer made a pitch for a lengthy and severe sentence saying he stole more than her money — he stole her dreams. Facebook Advertisement Advertisement Singer Alanis Morissette, left, arrives with attorney Allen Grodsky at U.S. federal court for the sentencing in the embezzlement case of her former manager Jonathan Todd Schwartz, Wednesday.  (CHRIS PIZZELLO / CHRIS PIZZELLO/INVISION/AP)  .Schwartz, 47, who blamed his gambling addiction for the thefts, wept and apologized at the hearing, saying he took full responsibility for his “stupid” behaviour and would live in shame because of it.“I will spend the rest of my life asking for forgiveness,” he said in seeking less than a year in prison. LEAVE A REPLY Cancel replyLog in to leave a comment Prosecutors sought just over five years in prison, but U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee said she thought Schwartz deserved more time for the “sheer audaciousness of this conduct.”Gee noted that she has criticized federal sentencing guidelines as draconian, but said they weren’t harsh enough in this case. Schwartz’s gambling addiction may explain the wire fraud and tax crimes, but didn’t excuse them, she said. She ordered him to pay $8.6 million in restitution. LOS ANGELES—Alanis Morissette’s meteoric rise to fame put her in need of someone who could wisely invest her fortune for her future. She thought she found that person in Jonathan Todd Schwartz, a money manager to the stars, who earned her trust and assured her that her nest egg was secure and growing. But even as she was repaying the favour by singing her hits at a benefit for a charity Schwartz founded, he was pocketing royalties from her hit 1995 record “Jagged Little Pill” and other albums. “He did this in a long, systematic, drawn-out and sinister manner,” Morissette said, adding it would have bankrupted her within three years had the thefts continued. Schwartz pleaded guilty earlier this year after admitting he embezzled more than $7 million from the singer and other celebrities.  (CHRIS PIZZELLO / CHRIS PIZZELLO / INVISION / THE ASSOCIATED PRESS)  .Schwartz admitted stealing nearly $5 million from Morissette between May 2010 and January 2014 and more than $2 million from five unnamed clients when he worked at GSO Business Management, a firm that touted relationships with entertainers such as Katy Perry, 50 Cent and Tom Petty.Schwartz was a high-flying partner making $1.2 million a year, according to court papers. The thefts struck a blow to the firm’s reputation that led to nearly a dozen layoffs and is expected to cost it $20 million, according to founder Bernard Gudvi. The embezzlement was discovered by a new money manager Morissette hired after she couldn’t get a straight answer from Schwartz about her investments.“It was at this time, I realized he also stole my dreams,” said Morissette, dressed in a black blazer, black pants and with her hair dyed blond. When GSO was contacted about the apparent theft, Schwartz made “wild accusations” Morissette was a drug addict and mentally unstable, Gudvi said. Schwartz also falsely claimed Morissette had invested the money in an illegal marijuana growing business.“As the walls were closing in on the scheme to steal client funds … he was unable to turn away from the lies,” Gudvi wrote to the court. The thefts financed “a lavish and luxurious lifestyle even beyond the means of the people he was stealing from,” Morissette said. “He had us all fooled.”Schwartz, who was fired, had offered financial guidance to some of the biggest stars and was said to represent Beyonce and Mariah Carey, who both appeared at a fundraiser last year in support of a heart disease charity he founded.Schwartz penned a mea culpa in The Hollywood Reporter recently, saying his crimes ruined his family and career. He said his father was a gambling addict who abandoned his family and he sought refuge in sports betting and drugs to deal with the stress from his business.“If I lost, then I had to make it back and when I lost again, the hole I had dug got deeper and deeper,” he wrote. “I felt weak and powerless, terrified by my internal demons that I was turning into my father.”Assistant U.S. Attorney Ranee Katzenstein disputed that Schwartz was a gambling addict or that he had come clean when he was caught.Schwartz “did not ‘reveal, reform, and rehabilitate’ as soon as his crimes were discovered; he lied, blamed others,” Katzenstein wrote. “He did not acknowledge that he’d committed a crime until after the government had put together its case and he had no other choice.” Twitterlast_img read more

first_img Beaches Resort Turks and Caicos confirms indefinite closure in 2021 Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Recommended for you Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppKINGSTON, Nov. 4 (JIS): The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) says it is committed to bolstering the required skills of all countries in the region to respond to, and contain a possible introductory case of Ebola in Latin America and the Caribbean.Director of PAHO, Dr. Carissa Etienne, gave the commitment today (November 4), while addressing delegates from some 30 countries across the region, including Jamaica, at the opening of an Emergency Risk Communication Training Workshop in Barbados.Dr. Etienne said PAHO/WHO is willing to send in-country missions to assess possible imported cases of Ebola into the region, if the need arises. The three-day workshop is organised by PAHO/WHO, and is focused on current and potential risks to health, including influenza-like illnesses, chikungunya, dengue haemorrhagic fever, and Ebola. The Director, who noted that Ebola is probably not merely a threat, but rather a possibility, said the communication workshop is an important aspect of the region’s preparedness.“Ebola is not a new disease, although it is for the Americas. It remains a very scary one and that’s why this workshop is especially important,” she said. Dr. Etienne pointed out that throughout the three-day workshop, participants will focus on preparedness as well as risk communication and the need to deliver clear, concise, and consistent messages to the public, to health care workers, and the media.“The key principles of risk communication are trust and transparency. The goal is that our concerned public heed our request, whether that is to take their temperature or to follow a prescribed protocol,” she advised.Members of the Jamaican delegation include: National Epidemiologist, Dr. Karen Webster; Behaviour Change Communications Officer, Ministry of Health, Sharon Jones; Public Relations Officer, South Eastern Regional Health Authority, Taneisha Lewis; Advisor – Disease Prevention and Control at PAHO/WHO for Jamaica, Bermuda and Cayman Islands and Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), Donna-Marie Rowe. The opening of the workshop coincides with the 17th Special Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in Trinidad and Tobago. The meeting will discuss the threat of Ebola as well as the Caribbean’s response to the Chikungunya Virus. Jamaica is represented at the meeting by High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, Sharon Saunders. Liverpool points tally is exceptional says Klopp

first_imgJurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s tally of 26 points from their opening 10 Premier League games is “exceptional” after the 4-1 win over Cardiff City at Anfield.Sadio Mane scored a brace after Salah opened the scoring, and Xherdan Shaqiri got on the scoresheet as well to take Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League, with Manchester City playing Tottenham at Wembley on Monday night. The 26 points tally matches Liverpool’s best start to a Premier League season and Klopp is over the moon with his team’s performance.“The start [to the game] was really good, exactly like it should be,” Klopp told Sky Sports.“We played good football and moved them around. Their tactic of man-marking did not really work and we could pass the ball where we wanted.divock origi, liverpoolReport: Origi cause Klopp injury concerns George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Divock Origi injury in today’s game against Newcastle is a cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp.Perhaps with one eye on Tuesday’s trip to Italy…“We lost the game a little bit, and did not keep 100 percent concentration, but we played on Wednesday and then again today – which is always a bit difficult.“The boys are really disappointed with the goal we conceded. It will happen one day. In that period we were a bit sloppy, losing the ball here, losing the ball there. Cardiff could live with 1-0 or 2-0, as they know a set-piece can put them back in the game.“But they did not get back in the game because we closed it with two wonderful goals. We are really happy – 26 points after 10 games is exceptional – so we are really happy.”last_img read more
