Trial of three former Anglo Irish Bank executives begins today

first_imgTHE TRIAL OF former Anglo Irish Bank executives Seán Fitzpatrick, William McAteer, and Pat Whelan begins today at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.The trio face 16 charges of unlawfully providing financial assistance, allegedly doing so in order to boost the bank’s share price.They have pled not guilty to the charges.Fitzpatrick (64) of Whitshed Road, Greystones, Co Wicklow, was chairman of the doomed bank at the time of the alleged offences, with McAteer (63), of Auburn Villas, Rathgar, South Dublin as finance director, and Whelan (50), of Coast Road, Malahide, Co Dublin as chief financial officer.The trial is expected to be one of the longest trials in the history of the state, running for several months, and will hear evidence from dozens of witnesses.
