HAMMOND, La. – For the second-consecutive year, the Southeastern Louisiana Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) partnered with the SLU Multicultural and International Student Affairs (MISA) organization in order to conduct a department-wide food drive for the Southeastern Food Pantry. The food drive concluded Thursday, Dec. 5, after a month-long stretch of gathering food. The Lions’ SAAC collected stocked 674 non-perishable items for the Southeastern Food Pantry, which is operated by MISA, throughout the month of November. The pantry is not just stocked with food, it is a place where students, staff and faculty can obtain necessary goods in order to help with everyday needs.”Our student-athletes were very honored to be able to participate in the Southland Gives Back initiative,” Southeastern Louisiana Assistant Athletic Director for Student Services Andrew Gipson stated. “We thought partnering with the Southeastern Food Pantry was a unique opportunity to be able to assist our own and provide for the students that we share our university with on a daily basis.”The Southeastern Food Pantry was created to collect and provide food for any active Southeastern Louisiana student, faculty or staff member in need throughout the school year. Up to 20 items per week may be obtained in order to help fight on-campus hunger. As part of the “Southland Gives Back” initiative, the Southland Conference will profile a community service outing from each of our 13 member institutions this holiday season.
